The Image of Subcarpathian Rus in the Work of Ivan Olbracht (From Reportage to Novel and Novella)
Beníšková, Dagmar ; Mravcová, Marie (advisor) ; Vaněk, Václav (referee)
Abstract The thesis deals with the relation of Ivan Olbracht and Subcarpathian Rus. Giving a brief summary of examined territory's history, the authoress attends to Olbracht's Subcarpathian stay and its influence on his work. Olbracht was challenged by the social and political conditions of fossil region to write a set of reportages released in newspaper and afterwards in a double book edition (Země bez jména, Hory a staletí). In the reportages he prepaired a factual and epical field for his prosaic pieces - Nikola Šuhaj loupežník and Golet v údolí (for completeness' sake it's essential to mention Marijka nevěrnice). Authoress devotes herself to a thematic analysis of reportages observing the way Olbracht depicted no longer existing culture and community. She applies this thematic outline on the outlaw novel and the triptych of short stories. It is hereby documented Olbracht's methodics consisting in a stratified narration based on two main layers: factual (empirical) and legendary (poetic).

Feľbaba, Vladimír ; Šouša, Jiří (advisor) ; Kindl, Vladimír (referee)
Establishment of the Ukrainian National Council in Presov, the role and representation of the interests of the Carpathian Ruthenians Abstract The establishment of the Ukrainian National Council in Presov has its historical and legal significance in the history of national minorities in Czechoslovakia. In the conditions of the liberated parts of Czechoslovakia, on 1 March 1945 in Presov is constituted a national- political body, which is to represent the interests of the Ruthenian-Ukrainian ethnic group, mostly in the north-eastern parts of Slovakia. The presented rigorous work examines the available factual data on the circumstances of the constitution, operation and subsequent activities of this national-political representative of the Ruthenian-Ukrainian minority in Czechoslovakia up to its definitive extinction. In the context of historical development, part of the work focuses on the historical context, which records the ethnogenesis of the Ruthenian- Ukrainian minority, the integration of the ethnic group into the state bodies, as well as the war conditions, which resulted in the loss of Czechoslovakia and the annexation of the Sub- Carpathian Russia to Soviet Ukraine. Within the scope of the research, the author deals also with related issues directly related to the activities of the Ukrainian...
Invention of traditions by folk ensembles
Mušinková, Michaela ; Janeček, Petr (advisor) ; Štěpánová, Irena (referee)
This study is concerned with constructing the folk traditions by means of the activities of the folk groups whilst paying attention to continuous, interrupted and invented traditions. It is dealing with terms folk, folklorism and interaction between them while focusing on the activity of a folk group (= folklorism), which repertoire is based on folk origins, and its influence on preservation and development of folk. The starting point of the study is a hypothesis, which tells us that a folk group helps to revitalize traditions. From methodological point of view, the study is based on field research. The research was conducted in two Ruthenian villages in the northeast Slovakia; in one of them operates a folk group. The main goal of the work is confirmation or disproval of the hypothesis using an example of a tradition - wedding ceremony. By detailed analysis, I am looking for analogical and differential elements between the individual weddings in one locality while paying attention to the change of wedding in time (comparison of current weddings from the recordings with traditional Ruthenian wedding described in literature by folklorists) and comparing this ceremony in both localities. The study is also trying to determine to what extent is a group/absence of a group affecting the individual...
